Introduction
In 2013, this group was originally formed as the Behavioral Health Coordinated Community Response team (BHCCR) based on community input and focus groups that identified the need for more comprehensive mental health services in our area. In September 2017 this group evolved into the Mental Health Coordinated Community Response team (MHCCR).

Current News in Douglas County
A new Mental Health Respite Center is now open

Hope Haven Peer Respite House: Peer-run respites are for people experiencing increased stress or symptoms related to mental health and those with co-occurring concerns who want support and encouragement from people who have experienced similar challenges. This support and encouragement are available through an overnight stay and by phone. Hope Haven can be an alternative to a visit to jail, the ER or hospital in times of emotional distress or crisis. Peer Run Respites are staffed by people with lived experience who are trained to listen and support you in finding your path to wellness and recovery.
A short-term stay (1-7 nights) offers opportunities for one-on-one and group connections to explore crisis as an opportunity for growth and change. Guests must be willing and able to choose this service freely (self-referral). All services are voluntary, and guests may come and go as they wish (including being able to go to work, school, appointments, or other activities). Hope Haven Peer Respite does not provide clinical supports like medication management or psychiatric services. Staff will support guests in accessing any resources they need, including services and supports in community.
Warm Line Number: for Hope Haven is 715-665-HOPE (4673).

We’re excited to announce that LiveWell Northern WI has officially shortened its name to LiveWell and is now an initiative of the Pruitt Center for Mindfulness and Well-Being at UW-Superior.
Since its launch in Fall 2022, LiveWell has provided opportunities for our community to connect, find joy, and enhance their well-being. Led by UW-Superior faculty and staff, and supported by the Miller-Dwan Foundation, Essentia Health St. Mary’s Superior Hospital, the Superior Rotary and many community partners, LiveWell has hosted 141 events with over 1,100 participants.
Beginning in 2025, LiveWell will continue to grow and expand its reach as part of the Pruitt Center for Mindfulness and Well-Being. This exciting transition aligns perfectly with the Center’s mission and opens new opportunities for enhancing wellness throughout our community. We are grateful for the continued support from our philanthropic partners to make this possible.
Calendar
BetterTogether activities are mini-activities that allow people to spend time together in a way that inspires joy and wellness and builds connection. Our goal is to have an activity scheduled most days of the week in every part of Douglas County.
Check out our calendar to host an activity, attend activities, and meet new people!http://www.livewellnorthernwi.org/
Gatekeeper Trainings
Gatekeeper Trainings are short (1.5 hours) trainings for those we’ve identified as important mental health gatekeepers. They are leaders of organized youth activities, supervisors and leaders in at-risk professions (construction, etc.), and other trusted persons who engage in regular conversation with the public (hair stylists, barbers, bartenders, etc.). The training will include suicide prevention, mental health awareness, the importance of maintaining connection during a time of injury, and how to refer to resources.
